Accompanying photos show a tree at a church memorial garden in Brinklow, MD. Photo DSCN6955 is an overall view of the tree, which is approximately 40-50 feet tall with twin trunks. The age of the tree is unknown, but its height suggests a very mature tree. Photo DSCN6959 is a close-up of typical leaves, with a ruler to show relative size. DSCN6958 shows a contorted intertwining of numerous branches. The tree provides significant shade at the memorial garden, but its probable age and condition seem to suggest it needs tree surgery or removal. I'd like to request that you identify this species and give any suggestions for its upkeep, etc. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Expert Response
We are having a hard time definitively identifying this tree from the photos. It may be a kind of linden. It is definitely a tree that should be assessed by one or more certified arborists. www.goodtreecare.com If all of the certified arborsts agree about how the tree should be handled, you are in good shape. If they disagree, you can send us all the opinions and more photos and we can try to be of more help. The third photo shows branches that need at least to be thinned out. vw
