Ajuga is a rapidly growing spring flowering ground cover. It has a beautiful purple flower in the spring, and it naturalizes quickly through underground runners. It is in the mint family, so like mint, it spreads and seeds itself. However, it is not deep rooted and can be removed easily. You can mow over it on a high setting to keep it neat. You can also put in edging to keep it in the area you want it.
