Pruning a Globe Blue Spruce #361167

We planted a globe blue spruce about 5 years ago and have always been afraid to prune it because we don't know when to do it, how to do it, etc. Someone recommended that we contact you for expert advice, so that is finally what we are doing. One thing we are just curious about . . . Is it typical for this type of bush to be BOTH a dark evergreen color and a blue color as you can hopefully see in the attached photo? Thanks so much for your time and help!

The color difference is normal. The new growth looks blue, but with time the whitish waxy surface layer of the leaves wears off so it then appears green. Conifers should be pruned in spring or early summer. See http://hort.uwex.edu/articles/pruning-evergreens/ for more details.
