what kind of tree is this? Ottawa, Ontario Canada #360602

Asked September 07, 2016, 7:05 PM EDT

There's this tree growing at the forest edge of my garden and this thing has thousands of berries but I never see birds or other animals eating them.
The branches of these berries have small thorns also.
I'm curious to know what kind of tree this is as I find it very invasive and I am constantly pulling small trees out every spring.
Thanks for your help,

Thanks for your question about your (probably invasive) berry bush/tree!  I'm having difficulty seeing the berry shape, and can't tell if there are circular or elongated berries.  But I think it's a Buckthorn, an invasive species in your area.

Good luck!

They are cylindrical in shape the berries. I've included a better picture (I hope)!
I went on a tree Atlas earlier and it to pretty much confirmed that it was a buck thorn bit the black cherry was also similar so many thanks for your response. I will now check how I can control this tree!

Good for you!  Isn't research fun?  That really looks like buckthorn berries to me!

Good luck!
