identify a grass #359670

Asked September 04, 2016, 10:28 PM EDT

We were at the MN Landscape Arboretum and had lunch in the picnic area and saw a green native (we think) grass about 8" tall with single 1-inch high head-type tassle. The tassle was tannish and fairly compact and upright. Single tassle per stem. We've searched and searched and cannot find anything like it. We're wondering if it's a kind of weed. If you could help us identify, we'd appreciate it! Thank you.

On a walk in my neighborhood yesterday I saw the same plant and now have a photo. It appears to be a weed, perhaps crab grass?
