White Birch Trees dying....... #359021
Asked September 02, 2016, 6:21 PM EDT
In the Santa Clara Area of Eugene, there are many Birch trees that are dying, or
have various amounts of dead branches. Is there anything to prevent this effect
on our healthy trees?
Thank you for your help on this issue.

It is hard to diagnose tree problems over the computer, but most likely this is as a result of Bronze Birch Borer. It has caused a lot of birch decline and death in the Willamette Valley over the last few years.
Here is some information on this pest: http://oregonstate.edu/dept/nurspest/bronze_birch_borer.htm
You can visit www.pnwisa.org to find an ISA Certified Arborist if you have a tree that needs to be looked at.
