I have a farmer who will plow 20 acres for me but neither of us know the going rate to pay him. Do you have any ideas as to a fair rate per acre or however you measure? He has a John Deere 4420 and will be pulling a 3 bottom plow that he is confident will move quickly through these fields that have not been plowed for the past 20 years. No brush or small trees as the land has been mowed every year. He is planning on plowing 8 inches deep. I apologize if I am telling you too much information.
Sincerely,
Paul Clemens

The best way to determine a price is to refer to the 2016 Ohio Farm Custom Rates. The average in the state for this is $21.25 per acre with a low per ace of $9 per acre and the high of $50. The $20 figure is pretty accurate for Northeast, Ohio.
This is a good way to start the negotiation. Here is the link to the complete report:

Please let me know if you have any questions
