Ash tree dropping large branches #357082
Asked August 27, 2016, 1:04 PM EDT
Our 30+ year old ash tree has been dropping large branches this summer. Wind does not seem to be a consistent factor. We've lost 5 or 6 10'-15' branches just this summer! Other than this, the tree looks healthy to me (no yellowing or dropping leaves, bark intact, etc). Don't know if this is relevant, but we had it trimmed last summer.

Ash trees should not be trimmed in the summer due to the Emerald Ash Borer. But, it is too late to undo that now. In looking at the photos of your tree, there are some areas where the bark has peeled off. That is not good. I suggest that this time you have a Certified Arborist come out and do an evaluation. You do not want to lose a large tree like this. It is not normal for branches of that size to just drop. You can find a Certified Arborist by visiting this web site and clicking on Find An Arborist. You can then put in your zip code. You can be assured that an ISA Certified Arborist will be knowledgeable. http://treesaregood.com/home.aspx
