Unusual bubbles in boiled egg #355019

Asked August 20, 2016, 10:24 PM EDT

I have boiled many eggs, and for the first time found a honeycomb bubble pattern, see photos. Any idea what might cause this?

Expert Response

It appears that the inner yolk membrane separated partially while you were cooking.  Sometimes this happens when and egg is heated very rapidly, like in a microwave.  You can see the yolk globules there.  Try boiling by slowly bringing the water to a boil and then covering the pan and setting off the burner for about 12-15 min depending on level of cooking you are looking for.
