Berries growing in my yard #354516

Asked August 19, 2016, 9:31 AM EDT

There are berries growing along my side yard fence and I don't know what kind. I was hoping someone could identify them for me and let me know if they are edible or not. I've got small children and don't want anyone getting sick if they accidentally/sneakishly eat some.

Expert Response

I am pretty sure this is Ampelopsis cordata, or heart-leaf pepper vine, a native vine closely related to grapes. My understanding is the fruits are considered non-edible, but also not poisonous or have no known toxicity. The birds love them though.
