So, rarely is there a fungus that attacks a living trunk in the way I see on your tree. I'm not sure there is a fungal problem instead of something related to the bark - potentially some kind of other damage, like splitting due to sun. Is there anyway you can get a close-up picture of the trunk?

Also, are there any other symptoms? Because the canopy looks healthy for the most part.

Also, what is the purpose of the white trunk surround at the bottom? Be careful that it doesn't get too tight against the trunk, or else it will injure and potentially kill the plant.

Alright, I really don't know what is going on here. I feel like this may be some sort of environmental issue, given that it's so uniform around the tree. It doesn't seem to be hurting the health of the tree, but it doesn't seem normal for that cultivar of maple.

I would suggest contacting your local extension office to discuss the problem with the agent there, as they would be able to provide better follow up if necessary. There are just too many variables that emails and online forums cannot solve. The phone number is<personal data hidden>.
