identification for tall woody weed/wildflower, subshrub #351306

Asked August 08, 2016, 3:52 PM EDT

I live in Baltimore City, near Herring Run Park. This popped up in my new curbside pollinator garden this spring and I have spent HOURS looking through weed libraries to see what it is. It still doesn't have a flower on it and it's getting really big, now almost 5 feet tall and spreading out. I didn't plant it and I am wondering maybe I should rip it out. So you are my last hope for identification.

It looks to me like it is an aster of some type.  It will likely flower in September.  It's a little late now to cut it back because it might prevent it from flowering, but if it turns out to be a plant you want to keep I'd suggest cutting it back once or twice during the summer to keep it's size more manageable.
