"open sesame" (for next year) #351062

Asked August 07, 2016, 9:43 PM EDT

i just received some sesame seeds for planting, but it is too late in season to plant (i live in the new York area)--- can you tell me the best way to store them, so they will still be good next year?--they are not that easy to get, it would be nice to have them ready for next year.-------thank you

Hi,
I have not experience with sesame seeds but I found this on the internet. I think they are talking about saving seeds for eating but the same advice would probably go for sowing except for the freezing part so I would try storing half of them in the refrigerator and half in a cool dark place and see which ones have the higher germination rate.

"Because sesame seeds have a high oil content, they turn rancid quickly. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place up to 3 months; refrigerate up to 6 months; or freeze up to 1 year."
