Sweet potato vine looking weird. #349489

Asked August 03, 2016, 12:36 AM EDT

Hello, I have three sweet potato vine plants in planters. Two look fantastic-third photo.  -but one is starting to look bad. The edge of the leaves are turning black--see photo #1 and #2.  The soil does not appear to be overly dry.    Over watering?  Any thoughts?

Expert Response

I see interveinal chlorosis on many of the leaves, so perhaps the browning is a late stage of chlorosis. In that case, the culprit might be a nutrient deficiency (nitrogen or magnesium, for example). Potted plants are especially susceptible to nutrient loss because whatever nutrients are there get flushed out by watering and rain. So I'd recommend fertilizing with a balanced fertilizer. Overwatering is also possible. So is sunburn (although sweet potato is tolerant of full sun).
