River Birch #348841

Asked August 01, 2016, 11:21 AM EDT

We have River Birch trees that are having yellowing leaves with brown spots on them. We have had this problem for 2 years now-we planted the trees 2 years ago. We talked with a tree person in our area and he directed us to apply iron. We did that last year and it helped and we have already done that twice this year. (Our soil may be heavy with clay.) I will include a picture. We're not sure if we should try and treat the trees or what we need to do. Thank you.

It doesn't really look like the leaves of your birch are showing signs of iron chlorosis since there isn't the green veining that you usually see. I wonder if the tree has been too wet this year. I would suggest a soil test to see what you have and then you could apply the proper fertilizer if necessary. Depending on its location you may need to provide water if the soil becomes dry since your tree is still fairly newly planted and the river birch does like good moisture but if your soil is heavy clay and doesn't drain well it could be difficult to grow anything.
