Are there any natural ways to rid your attic and house of bats without calling an exterminator.

Franklin County Ohio

Expert Response

The most effective and long-term option for removing bats from a home is exclusion. Exclusion involves identifying where the bats are entering (and exiting) your home, and placing one-way devices over those access points. The devices allow bats to exit your home and not re-enter it. Exclusion also entails sealing up any other holes, crack, or crevices in your home. Sometimes that is easy, most times it is not. It is why most people call a professional nuisance wild animal control operator. Such a person is training in managing wildlife that is causing a conflict with humans.

Below are two pieces of additional information. The first is a do-it-yourself guide to excluding bats. Keep in mind, however, that search for access point often involves going out on the roof, which can be dangerous. The second website is a list of nuisance wildlife animal control operators. They are listed by county. Good luck and feel free to email me personally if you'd like to talk more about bat exclusion!
