Household insect identification #346494

Asked July 25, 2016, 1:44 PM EDT

I have had an infestation of insects, in my basement bedroom, almost certainly coming from the crawl space under that bedroom. I have attached photographs of dead bugs on my carpet. Can you identify the insect? If so, can you recommend a way to eradicate them? Thank you, Craig Herron Beaverton, OR 97008

Expert Response

These are beetles, possibly one of the carpet beetles (I can't tell how large these are). These beetles can be very common in homes and usually cause no damage. Larvae can infest stored foods such as grains and dry pet food. Animal products can also become infested such as hair or hides. If numerous locate the infestation (food or animal products) and dispose, otherwise a few beetles is no reason for concern.
