Plant identification #345990

Asked July 23, 2016, 10:14 PM EDT

Hello! I'm trying to identify large bush/tree in my front yard. In the spring it has flowers like a camellia but now has developed fruit that resembles limes.

Anderson County South Carolina

Expert Response

Thanks for the question. The plant is a sasanqua camellia. The fruit contains large, brown, hard seeds and is inedible. Camellias (besides Tea Camellias) are purely ornamental landscape plants. Here is more information on camellias.
