Leaning Apple Tree #345947

Asked July 23, 2016, 7:59 PM EDT

Hello. We have a four-year-old Honeycrisp apple tree that has a persistent lean to it, see photos. We've tried time and time again to tie it up with ropes and stakes but it just seems determined to lean. We're becoming a bit concerned as time goes on because the lean seems to be getting worse. Part of that may be due to the lopsided tree growth and fruit weight on the low side of the tree, but regardless of that the tenacity of this tree's lean has us seeking expert opinion. Are there any recommended/standard procedures for propping up/straightening out a chronic leaner like this? More ropes, stronger stakes, more tension...or??? Thank you in advance for your help.

Information at the following website addresses your question. However the tree is so large and the lean so severe that you might need professional help to straighten it.

We recommend consulting with a forester or certified arborist.
