Boston Ivy on house dying from pesticide #343885

Asked July 17, 2016, 2:48 PM EDT

We mistakenly hosed our beautiful 30 year old Boston Ivy on our home with the insecticide product Sevin in the heat of the afternoon to try and kill the Japanese beetles that were eating the leaves. This product turns out to kill the leaves on the ivy, so our entire house is denuded of the beautiful leaves--see before and after photos attach. We are watering the vine roots daily in hope the leaves will regenerate. Please tell us we didn't destroy the vines and that the leaves will regenerate still this summer. We are just sick about our mistake and not reading the fine print on the product which states "do not use on Boston Ivy".

Expert Response

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your situation.

I realize that you want reassurance that your Boston Ivy will be OK but I think there is nothing else that you can do at this point.   Keep watering the plant, as you have been doing, to see if the effect of Sevin can be reduced, but it might be too little, too late.

Hope your Boston Ivy will recover!
