Diagnosis of Clematis Infection #343335

Asked July 15, 2016, 5:59 PM EDT

Hi, My clematis seems to have a fungal (perhaps bacterial) infection. See pictures. I looked it up online and the best I could guess is that it is some form of powdery mildew (absent the defining grayish white structures) or a leaf spot disease. Of course, maybe a couple things are going on. At this point, it seems confined to one vine or a few small vines. The Clematis is irrigated with a drip system, gets morning sun, and gets some air circulation. It's mulched with pebbles and its roots are shaded. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Expert Response

Does not look like a disease from my perspective. Leaves appear to be older and senescent. Could be issues with the stem or roots. Neil Bell is out right now but could handle this when he gets back. Please check with the Marion County Extension office about it.

Thanks! I think I'm getting jumpy after finding a few other problems in my garden.
