Would these be Lettuce Root Aphid (Pemphigus bursarius)? #341559
Asked July 10, 2016, 10:23 PM EDT
Hello, Pulling weeds from my garden bed to prepare it for arugula and other yuppie lettuce. Pulled some large dandelions, and the roots had white aphids. Given the host, would these be lettuce root aphids (Pemphigus bursarius) or are there other species of root aphids in our area? If so I may plant something else this year.
Thanks!

They look like aphids and lettuce root aphids can be a problem in Minnesota. Crop rotation is a good strategy.

If you use imidacloprid do not allow the plants to flower. Imidacloprid is very toxic to bees.
