Lawn weed/Grass identification #341460
Asked July 10, 2016, 4:14 PM EDT
I've tried, unsuccessfully, to identify this grass for the past few months. I've got conflicting ideas from many sources. Can someone help? This grass is sprouting up on my back lawn. Full sun, and not a lot of water, most of the grass has taken a hit. These stalks have stayed green. Rough to the touch as well. Much thicker than the rest of my grass.

Without seeing the plant entire I believe that your sample is Coarse Fescue. It holds up to the warmer months of summer quite well. it can be difficult to control if ever you wish to get rid of it. It is also used in sunny seed mixes for wide expanse of lawns as well. If you wish to share other pictures of the plant with roots attached that might be helpful to narrow the search a bit more.
