Dying birch? #335430

Asked June 22, 2016, 6:51 PM EDT

Any idea what is wrong with my birch tree? It has two trunks and the leaves on one trunk are withering and dying on the lower branches. Some branches are bare. I don't see evidence of insects.

Expert Response

Hi,

It's really difficult to tell from the pictures, but your tree may have been damaged by a birch borer. See this information: http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/insects/find/bronze-birch-borer/

I recommend having a professional arborist come and look at the tree to make a diagnosis and see if there is something that can be done to save your birch. http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/trees-shrubs/how-to-hire-a-professional-arborist/

Thank you for your inquiry and good luck! Replied June 23, 2016, 2:50 PM EDT
