Hi Experts,
I live in Long Island (Hicksville, NY) and notice this yellow little flower on the side walk this early May 2016. By the end do May or early June, those little flowe bear this little red fruits!
My question is - are these edible? If so, I'll try to grow them in a pot or something. Many thanks for your expert feedback!

Hi,
It is a wild strawberry and just produces these small fruits treasured by birds and other animals once a year in late spring. They are edible if you are not allergic to strawberries but keep in mind that it might be exposed to pollutants from vehicles or lawn pesticide applications. Also the flower is white not yellow. Buttercups, which are yellow and also have runners, are often found growing with wild strawberries. Buttercups are poisonous but do not produce red fruit.
