Hello, we currently have many small green worms eating our strawberry plants. When the plants first came up this Spring they looked great. Now, not so much. We had the same trouble last year. What are they and what can we do? Thank you for your help. Annika E.

Expert Response
The insects are sawfly larvae. Maybe Columbine sawflies. You can pick them off, or if that isn't workable insecticidal soap will work, but it must contact the larvae to be effective. Garden sprays with the active ingredient spinosad (e.g. Monterey Garden Insect Spray) should be effective and relatively safe.
