Expert Response

Small scale inversions are commonplace in the spring, but an inversion resulting in an oxygen crash and fish kill at this time of year is very rare.  It takes prolonged stratification, the kind that comes is induced by prolonged summer heat, to cause sufficient oxygen depletion isolated in deep waters that might cause a fish kill via inversion.
A single species kill at this time is often related to the stress of spawning, especially if there is a large year class in the past that is now approaching old age.
