Peach Tree sap #326382

Asked May 29, 2016, 2:46 PM EDT

I have a 4 year old peach tree that has produced fruit for the 1st time this year. It produces flat peaches. This is its 1st year of fruit production and it now seems to be oozing an orange colored sap. Any idea why, or what I need to do to help my tree? Thanks, Gina, Randall, IA

Expert Response

Gummosis or the oozing of sap is common on peaches, cherries, plums, and apricots. Gummosis may be due to environmental stress, mechanical injury, or disease and insect pests.

See the following website for additional information on gummosis.  http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/gardens-gardening/your-garden/help-for-the-home-gardener/advi...
