My hydrangea leaves are not fully leafed out this year. Very small. Looking for someone to tell my why!

The problem may be that the plant has too many stems; if you want large leaves and flowers you have to prune the stems so there are only 5 to 6 stems per plant. The other possibility may be from the lack of fertility. Compost and/or decomposed mulch should help.
