Live Oak Disease #323431

Asked May 20, 2016, 4:41 PM EDT

I live in Frisco, Tx and have a Live Oak tree that appears to have a disease.  Will you please look at the attached pictures and tell me if the tree indeed has a disease and what care is required? If not a disease is there any special treatment needed? Thanks in advance for your help.

Expert Response

Looks like stem gall, pretty common on live oak. http://lee.ifas.ufl.edu/Hort/GardenPubsAZ/facts_about_galls.pdf

You do seem to have a lot of it. And you might see some impacts in the growth of the tree, as in misshapen or odd growing. You can watch for the insect that causes it at treat for it. You might also be able to do some judicious pruning and remove the areas with galls so that your growth won't be deformed.

Let me know if you have further questions.
