Weeds! #318956

Asked May 05, 2016, 8:59 AM EDT

Can you tell me what type of weed this is. It usually stays pretty low in the lawn but will grow upward if I don't catch it. It seems to act like a vine. I've enclosed a few pictures. What is the best way to kill it without killing my lawn. I've looked everywhere online and can't seem to identify it. Thanks!

Prostrate Knotweed (Polygonum aviculare) indicates that your soil is compacted.  You can decrease the chance of this plant reoccurring if you reduce the soil compaction by core aeration. You may hand remove if you have a limited number of plants. Selective post emergent broadleaf herbicides for lawns containing MCPP and dicamba can be applied early in the season (April to early May) when plants are barely past seedling stage.  This seasons early warmth may require repeat applications to control this plant.
