Hello,
I have several mature trees (80'+) on my property line that gets these bumps on their leaves right after they emerge. These are hickory, sweetgum, and oak. The trees border a small wooded area that has a pond/wet area on the far side. These trees have been affected like this in the 23 years we have lived here.
Can you please identify the cause of these bumps? And if so, is there anything that can be done about it?
I would truly appreciate any help you may be able to offer!
Thank you,
Leigh B.

Those look like some kind of gall, which are formed by mites. They are harmless to trees. Here is some more detailed information: http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/insects/find/insect-and-mite-galls/
