Can someone answer me if this is beetles or termite damage? I have heard both make tiny holes in wood there is no evidence of existing bugs in the wood now this was from a 1940 home during renovations

While there may be some old insect damage, the majority of the damage you see in these old wooden structural elements, is simply wood rot, probably the result of exposure to moisture for a long period of time.
