Plant Identification/Toxicity #306644

Asked March 12, 2016, 1:55 PM EST

I'm new to the state & this bush is growing in the front yard of my new home. The new growth toward the bottom produces leaves different from the mature ones and it seems to attract numerous house flies.
  • I don't smell a strong scent coming from the plant.
  • It's height is approximately 10 feet.
  • White flowers
  • Red "fruit" or "seeds"
  • Growing in San Antonio, TX
Please help me identify this & establish toxicity?

Hello,

Chinese photonia
Photonia serrullata

I'm pretty sure it's not toxic, unless you possibly consume large quantities of leaves or fruit.

Thanks so much, David! So, it should be safe to have around pets—as long as they don't chew the leaves or fruit?
