Question about Aloe plant #303317

Asked February 27, 2016, 9:57 AM EST

I have some type of aloe Vera plant that makes its babies off of its trunk, I'm not sure how to remove them to make other individual plants. Thank You! Dianna

Expert Response

It looks like they aren't forming directly on the trunk, so you should still be able to separate the offsets.  I can see at the base of the offsets there is brown coloring, which means they should be ready to be separated from the mother.  Just make sure there are some roots growing from the offsets when you separate them from the mother.

Most of them are still attached to the trunk. I don't want to kill it by taking them off. Any idea what the name of this Aloe plant is?
Thank you so much!

Ahh, I see now.  The pups that are directly attached to the base of the mother plant need to stay until they are big enough to remove.  Eventually, they'll develop their own roots and be able to be separated from the mother plant.
