Slaughterhouse Hot water use #299743

Asked February 05, 2016, 12:54 PM EST

How much hot water does a small scale (14,000 birds per year) poultry processing slaughterhouse use on a per bird  or per pound of product basis?

Silver Bow County Montana

Expert Response

You should consider around 6-7 gal of water per bird processed on average.  Chill water along with processing water will both be needed in the process as well as water for ice production.

Thanks, G.

6-7 gallons would include water used in scalders as well as chillers and ice production.  So both hot and cold water.  Use this as a guide to see if you have adequate water supplies to run the plant.
