"Pre-emergence" application for earwigs? #298844

Asked January 30, 2016, 11:13 AM EST

I saw the article regarding preventing summer annual weeds in the newspaper this morning, and am wondering if there is anything I could do, or spray, to deter earwigs in my garden? I battle them every year, put out cans of oil, and go out after dark daily to pick them off the plants (and crush them). Any ideas?

Unfortunately, there are no pre-emergence insecticides, insecticides that will keep eggs from hatching. Here is an article from University of Nevada Cooperative Extension https://www.unce.unr.edu/publications/files/ho/2001/fs0141.pdf and a second article from UC Davis IPM that discusses control strategies. http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn74102.html
