That's a Schefflera, commonly known as an umbrella tree. It's grown as a houseplant in areas where it gets cold in the winter. In tropical areas it can sometimes actually be invasive. There are also variegated varieties.  It needs bright light, but not full sun.  Use a peat-based potting soil.  Water it thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry, but don’t let the pot sit in water. Here's more information on how to take care of it.
