squirrel eye problem #294495

Asked December 24, 2015, 10:02 AM EST

Some of the squirrels that feed under my bird feeders have an infected eye.  It looks all swollen and has pus coming from it.  I rake under my feeders to clean up the sunflower seed shells.  Any idea what the problem could be?
Thank you!

Expert Response

Since there is not a great deal of information about squirrel eye problems, a possibility is conjunctivitis or commonly known as pink eye.  It is contagious to other squirrels.  But the problem is, your "patients' are not going to allow themselves to be treated so it will run its course... with whatever the end of this is.
