Insects questions #290559

Asked November 16, 2015, 3:28 PM EST

So i have been looking online for what kind  of insect this could be but I cannot figure it out. Could anyone help me out?
1) so first picture its in houston area and i assume its a type of cricket
2) I was on the beach and I saw this little guy jumping/scurrying around digging in the sand. But i have no idea what it is. Is it a type of ant or bettle? Its distinctive charestics are the horizontal white stripes on its abdomen.

Expert Response

The first image has rather characteristic legs of a grasshopper, resembling a species such as Dichromorpha viridis (

Unfortunately the second image a little less telling. It looks like it may be some kind of sand wasp (Bembix) based on your description of the horizontal white stripes, sand-digging behavior, and what I can see from the image.

Best regards,
