Please help me identify this berry producing tree! :) #286777

Asked October 24, 2015, 6:00 PM EDT

I have a toddler that runs around the backyard and loves to pick off the berries from the trees and bushes. I have been unable to identify this one but would like to so that I can know if it is toxic. It is very tall, taller than our house and is probably really a bush rather than a tree because it doesn't have one big trunk but several smaller trunks. It does usually produce flowers in the summertime but I can't remember the color. I do know the hummingbirds love them. Right now the berries are red and aren't hard like Holly berries. My toddler can easily squish them. Maybe I didn't notice in the summer but I don't seem to remember that it had berries before. I know this might not be enough information and thank you for the help!

I can't really tell, but it looks like the leaves in the berry picture are different than those in the following 2 pictures.  The latter 2 pictures definitely look like Rose of Sharon.  I'm just not sure on the first picture.  Can you provide a picture of the whole plant, as well as a picture of the leaf?

Thank you.
