Treatment of sweet gum scale #286301

Asked October 22, 2015, 8:54 AM EDT

My ornamental variety (tall skinny) of sweet gum have scale and are turning yellow almost overnight. Leaves are covered with scale. 4 are planted closely and have been planted since April. Were doing great until last week. How would you treat them?

Expert Response

Sweetgum is susceptible to cottony-cushion scale, sweetgum scale, and walnut scale. Use a horticultural oil to help provide control, or a systemic insecticide (imidicloprid) for longer lasting control.

Thanks for the question.
