Expert Response

I believe this plant is a succulent, possibly one of the Kalanchoe species.  However, houseplant identification is not my strong point, but it may give you something to start a Google search on.

Most of the succulents need a light, well-drained soil.  They do not like to be overwatered or sit in a saturated pot, so water them only when the soil has dried out a bit, and make sure the pot has adequate drainage.

Succulents usually need a lot of light, but might get burned by direct light.  Place it in a south facing window, but pull it back a few feet so that it gets bright but indirect light.
