Weird pumpkin! #282550

My aunt gave us this pumpkin and she said the people who she got it from had no information to give to her. Can anyone tell me what this stuff is?

This looks like a warty growth on a pumpkin. Sometimes you will see this on pumpkins or gourds sold in garden centers or farm stands.
