mini roses in a window box? #280845

Asked September 26, 2015, 2:57 PM EDT

Hi,
I bought these mini roses intending to place them in this window box that is 5.25 inches deep. I was really excited at the beginning, but now I'm a little disappointed after reading about the pot sizes required for mini roses and how they need space and whatnot... Can you tell me whether I can place them in my window box or not?
Thank you

Our U.S. Cooperative Extension System experts can't answer your question without know a country and climate. If you provide more details about where you're writing from, I might be able to find someone to help.

Ok, I'm writing from Lebanon. The weather these days is very hot. Is that enough?

Miniature Roses are great additions to window boxes! Although you are located in Lebanon, the growing techniques are still the same.

Unlike standard roses, min-roses have shallower root systems, which requires more watering, but also allows for more planting and placement opportunity. You mentioned that your window boxes are 5.25" deep, and the ideal depth is 6", but I really think that as long as your window boxes have good soil and good drainage, your mini-roses will perform just fine in your window boxes.

I have attached a publication from the University of Colorado; and, although your climates are very different, you will find some very useful planting and care information in the publication. http://www.colostate.edu/Dept/CoopExt/4dmg/Flowers/Roses/minirose.htm

Good luck to you!
