Lilac Branches with White Spots #277993

What is causing the white spots on my Lilac branches?

Cumberland County Pennsylvania

It looks like a type of lichen. Lichen rarely harms its host, but I would remove a sample and have it analysed by Penn State. Take your sample to your local Penn State Extension and they will send it to the plant lab.
