Expert Response

The use of bleach in cleaning and disinfecting areas has become a controversial topic because of its overuse in some cases.

Bleach is solely a disinfectant and can be inactivated by microscopic organic debris. It is also inactivated by the presence of soap and detergents, so care must be taken to completely rinse all detergent residue from the surface prior to applying bleach. Additionally, the surface should be dry so as not to further dilute the bleach solution.

Remember, however, that more bleach does not make it better. Take caution not to use bleach in conjunction with other cleaners as dangerous gases may be expelled in the combination.
