What is this growing? #277061

Asked September 10, 2015, 10:11 AM EDT

I used to have a Croton in the spot, when I had moved 2 years ago , I had lived in Ohio and the plant died. When it finally died I saw something starting to grow. It has been about a year now and this is all I'm getting. So I'm not sure exactly what is in the pot.

Expert Response

This looks like a young pencil tree or milkbush (Euphorbia tirucalli). Here is some helpful growing info: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53909/#b

Where would it have come from? I never had 1 and this pot has always been indoors. Also, mine is not thick and does not stand straight up. Is there anything else it could be? The pot had 1 stem croton in before this started to grow.

Also the brown stem is left over from the croton. It's not apart of what is growing

No other ideas for plant possibilities.

There could have been a seed in the soil.
