Interesting bugs #275336

Asked September 03, 2015, 11:16 AM EDT

I found these two unusual insects clinging to the screen door this morning and wondered what they are and if there is any concern of them harming plant life in the area.

The long skinny insect is a walkingstick: http://webdoc.agsci.colostate.edu/bspm/Hexapoda%20(Insects)/Walkingsticks%20of%20Colorado.pdf

The other is a moth, probably in the family Notodontidae, that I can not identify  (there are about 2000 different moth species in the state).  But it is not one of a species that is considered to be a pest.

Neither of these are considered species that would harm any type of plant.  Although both develop by feeding on plants, their damage is negligible and goes unnoticed.

But these are two insects I would agree are well above average in being interesting in their appearance.
