Is this a Brown Recluse? And if so how do I get rid of them?

Expert Response

The spider in your photo is NOT a brown recluse. It is a grass spider, most likely Agelenopsis pennsylvanica, in the family Agelenidae. These types of spiders are also called funnel weaving spiders because they make a funnel-shaped web. The web is not used to catch insects, rather it just is a hiding place for the spider from which to run out and catch passing prey items that hit trip lines radiating out from the web over the ground. These spiders normally live outdoors in grassy or weedy areas. During th late summer, male spiders abandon their webs and go wandering looking for females. At this time, males occasionally show up inside buildings. They will not take up residence there, and are basically harmless. Any bite from this spider would be no worse than a bee sting. I can 't be absolutely certain from your photo, but the spider in your photo appears to be a male, which would make sense if it was indoors. I have included a couple of links below to webpages with more information and photos of this spider.
